Overview
A charming collection of eight vintage sewing zippers, featuring original mid-century packaging from iconic brands like Talon, J.P. Coats, and YKK. This group showcases the transition from metal to flexible nylon and polyester coils, complete with period-perfect typography, graphic design, and original retail price stamps.
Story
During the mid-20th century home sewing boom, these colorful notions were the high-tech gadgets of the domestic world. Talon's 'Zephyr' nylon coil, introduced in 1960, was marketed as a 'magically self-healing' marvel that wouldn't snag fabric.
Maker / Origin
Talon, originally founded as the Universal Fastener Company in 1893, virtually invented the modern zipper. Alongside J.P. Coats (famous for thread) and YKK (which grew to dominate the global market), these companies fueled the creative independence of millions of home dressmakers who crafted their own wardrobes.
Condition & Value
Six zippers remain unused in their original cardboard packaging, which shows minor edge wear, light toning, and original price markings consistent with age. Two zippers are loose but appear unused with original paper tags attached. The materials remain flexible and functional.
