Maker / Origin

Aoki Mokubei (1767–1833) was a celebrated Kyoto painter and potter who helped revive the Kutani kilns in the early 19th century. His style, characterized by Chinese literary themes, red grounds, and lively figures, became so popular that workshops continued to produce high-quality tribute pieces ('Mokubei-utsushi') for generations.

The front display presents beautifully with vibrant enamel preservation and minimal surface wear. However, there is a prominent hairline crack visible on the underside running from the foot rim through the green 'Fuku' mark, which reduces the overall value by approximately 50-60%.
