In Edo-period Japan, soba noodles became a fast-food sensation. Patrons used small cups like this for dipping sauce, appreciating whimsical painted designs like moon rabbits leaping through rolling waves as they dined.
Maker / Origin
Produced in the renowned kilns of Arita in the historic Hizen province, these pieces were crafted by skilled artisans following centuries-old ceramic traditions. The square 'Fuku' (Happiness/Fortune) mark on the base is a classic auspicious mark widely used on high-quality Edo and Meiji wares.
