Overview
A striking set of mid-century highball glasses featuring the highly detailed 'Persian Garden' pattern by legendary designer Georges Briard. This design showcases a rich, tapestry-like motif with stylized birds, floral elements, and geometric borders in a vibrant palette of red, blue, white, and black.
Story
In the 1950s and 60s, American entertaining shifted from formal dining rooms to casual backyard patios and home wet bars. Georges Briard captured this cultural moment by turning ordinary glassware into highly decorative conversation pieces. This 'Persian Garden' pattern brought an exotic, global aesthetic to the classic mid-century cocktail hour.
Maker / Origin
Georges Briard was the professional pseudonym of Jascha Brodsky, a Ukrainian-born artist who immigrated to the United States in 1937 and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. He became one of the most prolific and successful designers of mid-century giftware and barware, known for his bold use of 22-karat gold, vibrant colors, and whimsical, historically-inspired patterns.
Condition & Value
The enamel on the visible glasses appears bright and intact with minimal fading or scratching. To preserve the value, these must never be put in a dishwasher, as modern detergents will quickly strip the vintage enamel. Excellent condition with no chips or major enamel loss commands a premium.
