Overview

A bold, double-strand statement necklace featuring hand-formed ceramic beads in a vibrant turquoise-to-celadon glaze. The piece is accented with cast metal spacers featuring Celtic knotwork and geometric motifs, finished with a heavy toggle clasp.

Story

Handmade in a small studio during the 1990s craft revival, these beads were fired individually to achieve that watery glaze. The mix of Celtic knots and modern ceramic shows a maker blending ancient symbols with bold, wearable art.

Maker / Origin

While unmarked, this piece is characteristic of the 'Studio Craft' movement, where individual artists moved away from mass production to create one-of-a-kind wearable sculptures. Makers often sold these at high-end juried art festivals or boutique galleries.

Condition & Value

The ceramic beads appear to be in excellent condition with no visible cracks or major chips. The metal shows a nice patina; however, there is some green oxidation (verdigris) near the toggle clasp that should be gently cleaned to prevent further corrosion. Condition is generally very good.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
