Overview
An iconic Lalique 'Champs-Élysées' centerpiece bowl featuring stylized, deeply molded plane tree leaves in a brilliant combination of frosted and clear crystal. Designed originally by Marc Lalique in 1951, this dramatic vessel captures the essence of the famous Parisian avenue lined with spectacular foliage.
Story
In 1951, Marc Lalique looked out at the sun-drenched leaves of the Champs-Élysées and saw crystal. He captured the soul of Paris in this design, turning the city's iconic plane trees into a permanent play of light and shadow.
Maker / Origin
Founded by master jeweler and glassmaker René Lalique in the late 19th century, the house of Lalique defined the Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras. After René's passing, his son Marc took the helm in 1945, transitioning the company from demi-crystal to heavier, lead-based crystal, which allowed for unprecedented brilliance and dramatic contrast between frosted and polished surfaces.
Condition & Value
The bowl appears to be in excellent vintage condition with no visible chips, cracks, or heavy clouding in the frosted areas. Light shelf wear on the underside base is normal and expected; deep scratches or flea bites on the leaf tips would reduce value by 30-50%.
