Overview
A fine English bone china teacup and saucer featuring a delicate hand-painted pink rosebud motif set within a raised gilded trellis or 'fishnet' pattern. The set showcases a scalloped rim and a distinctive angular 'broken loop' handle heavily accented in 22kt gold.
Story
Staffordshire potters in the 1900s were obsessed with the 'Trianon' style, mimicking the luxury of Marie Antoinette's Versailles. This set brought that royal French elegance to the high-society tea tables of Edwardian England.
Maker / Origin
Cauldon Ltd. rose from the famous Brown-Westhead, Moore & Co., operating at the legendary Cauldon Place Works. They were renowned for producing some of the thinnest, most translucent bone china in the world, often rivaling Mintons and Sèvres in quality.
Condition & Value
The gilding on the handle and rim appears remarkably intact with minimal rubbing. No visible chips or 'spider' cracks in the glaze. Excellent preservation of the gold trellis. Pristine condition significantly maintains the upper end of the value. Individual Cauldon cups in ornate gilded patterns typically sell in this range.
