Overview
A beautifully preserved solid cherry wood vanity dressing table featuring a large tilting oval mirror, two elevated glove boxes, and six lower drawers. This set comes complete with its original matching upholstered bench, retaining its original factory labels underneath dated December 1950.
Story
In December 1950, this solid cherry vanity was shipped from a snowy Pennsylvania factory to Cash & Carry Furniture Co. in Evansville, Indiana, just in time for the post-war holiday boom. It represents the warmth and stability American families craved during the early Cold War era.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1892 in Warren County, Pennsylvania, the Youngsville Star Manufacturing Company became renowned for its high-quality bedroom furniture. Their 'Sherwood Solid Cherry Reproductions' line capitalized on the mid-century American obsession with Colonial Revival styles, utilizing premium native hardwoods to create heirloom-quality pieces.
Condition & Value
The vanity and bench are in very good vintage condition with minor surface scratches and light wear consistent with age. The original paper shipping label and law tag are remarkably intact under the bench, and the original casters are preserved in a drawer. Light wear to the upholstery on the bench is present but stable.
