Overview
An exquisite collection of fine Irish lead crystal stemware, featuring the iconic 'Lismore' cut martini glasses and the celebratory 'Millennium' collection champagne flutes. Each piece showcases the brilliant clarity, deep wedge cuts, and heavy hand-feel that made Waterford the global standard for luxury glassware.
Story
In 1952, Waterford introduced the 'Lismore' pattern, inspired by the Gothic architecture of Lismore Castle in County Waterford. This collection also features the 'Millennium' toast flutes, designed to celebrate the turn of the century with a symbolic bow-tie cut representing peace and prosperity.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1783 by brothers George and William Penrose, Waterford established a legacy of creating the finest quality crystal in the world. Though the original factory closed in the 1850s, it was spectacularly revived in 1947 by Czech immigrants Kael Bacik and Miroslav Havel, who restored the historic Irish craft to global prominence.
Condition & Value
The stemware appears to be in excellent, near-mint vintage condition, retaining the original green foil seahorse labels which suggests they were rarely, if ever, used. No visible clouding, chips, or flea bites are apparent on the rims or bases. Excellent condition like this commands a premium in the secondary crystal market.
