The signature invokes Tosa Mitsunobu, head of the imperial painting court in the late 15th century.
Maker / Origin
Tosa Mitsunobu (c. 1434–1525) was a legendary master who led the Tosa court painting bureau during the Muromachi period, solidifying the classic Yamato-e style. Later Edo and Meiji period artists frequently copied or attributed works in his honor to celebrate historical Japanese genre painting.
