Maker / Origin
Originally produced exclusively at the official Nabeshima clan kilns at Okawachiyama, the techniques and patterns were heavily guarded state secrets until the abolition of the han system in 1871. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, master potters in Arita revitalized these aristocratic patterns for connoisseurs and international exhibitions.
