Overview
A substantial library or executive desk crafted from rich walnut, featuring a thick plank top with breadboard ends. The desk is supported by a dramatic pair of heavily carved lyre-shaped trestle ends, joined by a low-set central stretcher with traditional joinery.
Story
In the early 20th century, American estates fell in love with the romance of old-world Europe. This desk was built to bring the grand, scholarly atmosphere of a Spanish monastery or Renaissance library straight into a modern study.
Maker / Origin
While often produced by high-end American revival manufacturers of the 1920s through 1950s—such as Kittinger, Imperial, or Grand Rapids workshops—these pieces were heavily inspired by 16th-century Spanish and Italian monastic furniture designs.
Condition & Value
The desk appears to be in very good vintage condition with a beautiful, warm patina. There is minor surface wear, light scuffs, and small indentations on the top surface consistent with age and use, which adds to its historic character.
