Overview
This is a classic mid-century American art pottery planter featuring a clean, minimalist white glaze and a distinctive sloped, scoop-like silhouette. Marked on the bottom with '388 USA', it represents the functional, everyday artware that defined post-war American suburban homes.
Story
During the 1950s, American windowsills were transformed by a craze for indoor gardening. Ohio workshops responded by churning out playful, affordable planters. This little vessel was designed to bring a splash of nature and modern style into the heart of the post-war suburban kitchen.
Maker / Origin
The Nelson McCoy Sanitary Stoneware Company, founded in 1910 in Ohio, became legendary simply as 'McCoy'. They survived the Great Depression by pivoting from utilitarian jugs to decorative, whimsical art pottery. Today, McCoy is one of the most beloved and widely collected names in American ceramic history.
Condition & Value
The planter appears to be in very good vintage condition with no obvious cracks, major chips, or heavy staining. There is minor shelf wear on the unglazed bottom rim, which is completely expected for its age. Excellent preservation of the glossy glaze.
