Maker / Origin
Seiko, founded in 1881 by Kintarō Hattori in Tokyo, shocked the horological world in 1969 by releasing the Astron, the world's first commercial quartz wristwatch. To foster innovation, Seiko ran two independent internal manufacturing divisions—Suwa Seikosha and Daini Seikosha—which fiercely competed against one another to engineer ever-thinner, more precise timepieces.
