Overview
An exquisite frosted and clear crystal small bowl or ashtray featuring a repeating relief pattern of stylized bird wings or feathers, centered by polished clear cabochons. This design showcases the signature Lalique contrast between satin-finished frosted glass and brilliant, light-catching polished crystal.
Story
René Lalique revolutionized French glassmaking by treating crystal not as a luxury container, but as a medium for sculpting light itself. This post-war design carries forward his obsession with natural geometry, turning simple feathers into a modern, rhythmic crown.
Maker / Origin
Founded by master jeweler and glassmaker René Lalique in 1888, the house of Lalique became the ultimate symbol of French Art Nouveau and Art Deco luxury. Following René's death in 1945, his son Marc transitioned the company's production from demi-crystal to heavier, more brilliant lead crystal, maintaining the legendary hand-finished frosting techniques.
Condition & Value
The crystal appears to be in very good condition with no major chips or cracks visible. Some light surface wear and minor scratches on the underside base are typical for its age and use. Excellent preservation of the frosted finish is key to maintaining its value.
