Story

Created in California during the 1970s design boom, this vessel was engineered to float light in mid-air. It combined the ancient concept of the oil lamp with space-age laboratory glass to warm teapots or fondue. It is a masterclass in making the functional look entirely magical.

Maker / Origin

Gottardo Piazzoni (grandson of the famous California landscape painter of the same name) was a noted designer who specialized in elegant, architectural glass objects in the late 20th century. His studio focused on high-quality borosilicate glass, blending scientific durability with artistic, organic forms that captured the laid-back, modern aesthetic of Northern California.

Condition & Value

The main hand-blown glass cylinder and the suspended inner sphere appear to be in excellent condition with no visible cracks or major chips. There is soot residue inside the burner neck and on the small glass insert tube, which is common for used oil lamps and can be cleaned.
