Overview
Widely considered the 'Rolls Royce' of portable typewriters, this Swiss-engineered masterpiece features a distinctive seafoam green (mint) color palette and a curved, aerodynamic metal body. It introduced the world's first integrated margin scales visible right above the typing line, a revolution in mid-century office ergonomics.
Story
Swiss watchmakers applied their precision to this machine in 1958. It became the favorite of literary giants like Sylvia Plath and Tom Hanks. Its 'Seafoam Green' keys were designed to reduce eye strain for long-form writers.
Maker / Origin
Paillard was originally a manufacturer of music boxes and fine watches, which explains the incredible tactile 'snap' of the keys. They transitioned into typewriters with the Hermes line, setting a global standard for durability and smooth mechanical action that remains unsurpassed.
Condition & Value
The exterior appears remarkably clean with minimal paint loss, and the original case is present. The keys show very little yellowing, which is rare. Functional testing is required to ensure the drawband and escapement are not seized; if fully functional, it sits at the top of the price range.
