This magnificent natural specimen is a Chicoreus ramosus, commonly known as the Ramose Murex or Branched Murex shell. Featuring intricate frilly fronds along its whorls and a delicate blush-pink aperture, it is one of the largest and most dramatic species in the Muricidae family. Shells like this have been highly prized for centuries as cabinet curiosities and decorative interior accents.

For over two thousand years, sea snails in the Murex family held a secret that built empires: their hypobranchial glands produced Tyrian purple, the rarest dye in antiquity. Roman emperors reserved the color exclusively for royalty under pain of death. Today, specimens like this branched murex bring that same legendary ocean beauty directly into the home.
