Overview
This is a striking, contemporary hand-coiled ceramic vessel featuring the iconic 'fine line' geometric style synonymous with the Acoma Pueblo. The flat-sided, tapered form serves as a canvas for a meticulously hand-painted black-and-white optical grid, overlaid with representations of the flute-playing deity Kokopelli and climbing lizards.
Story
Deep in the high desert of New Mexico, Acoma artists have spent over a thousand years perfecting a pottery tradition that turns local clay into canvas. This piece features Kokopelli, the ancient, humpbacked flute player who has carried the promise of fertility, music, and mischief across the Southwest since prehistoric times.
Maker / Origin
Signed 'R.B. Acoma NM' on the base, this vessel was created by an artist working within the rich, multi-generational pottery community of the Sky City pueblo.
Condition & Value
The vase appears to be in very good vintage condition with no visible cracks, chips, or major paint loss. There is minor surface dust and light scuffing on the matte black base consistent with age and display. Excellent preservation of the delicate slip-painted surface commands a premium.
