Overview
A classic piece of Pacific Northwest folk art featuring a hand-painted buck on a polished round of rare Myrtlewood.
Story
Gold Beach, Oregon, sits at the mouth of the Rogue River, one of the few places on Earth where the Umbellularia californica—or Myrtlewood—tree thrives.
Maker / Origin
The Rogue River Myrtlewood shop was a staple of the Gold Beach community, part of a specialized cottage industry that turned local timber into art.
Condition & Value
The plaque shows fine crazing in the lacquer finish, which is a natural sign of aging for this type of wood and finish. The original Rogue River sticker is intact on the reverse, which is a major plus for collectors. The painting itself appears well-preserved with no significant flaking.

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.
