While often marked simply 'Hand Painted Made in Japan' to satisfy US import laws, these wares were produced by highly skilled, often anonymous artisans in regional workshops around Nagoya and Seto. These decorators specialized in the labor-intensive moriage technique, adapting centuries-old temple decoration styles for domestic tableware and decorative art.

Condition & Value

The vase appears to be in good vintage condition with the delicate raised moriage slip-work largely intact, which is rare as these raised areas are highly prone to chipping. There is minor surface dust and light wear consistent with age; keeping the slip-work free of chips preserves the majority of its value.
