Overview
A magnificent large blue and white underglaze porcelain charger featuring a central medallion depicting a figure, bridge, and pine trees, surrounded by radiated panel compartments (fuyode style). It comes complete with its traditional fitted wooden storage box (tomobako).
Story
Seventeenth-century Dutch traders sparked a global craze for Chinese 'Kraak' porcelain, but when Chinese kilns fell silent due to war, Japanese potters in Arita stepped in to supply Europe. This charger replicates that iconic paneled design with distinctively Japanese cobalt artistry.
Maker / Origin
Arita ceramics began in the early 1600s after Korean potters discovered porcelain clay in Saga Prefecture. The region quickly became Japan's premier porcelain center, renowned for high-temperature firing and cobalt blue painting under a clear glaze.
