A classic example of Victorian 'Flow Blue' ironstone, featuring the 'Florida' pattern with its characteristic blurred cobalt blue floral motifs and scalloped, embossed edges.
Story
In the late 1800s, a happy accident in the kiln changed the course of ceramic history when potters discovered that adding volatile chlorides during firing caused the blue glaze to bleed into the white body.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1883 by four brothers—Alfred, Frederick, Henry, and Robert—Johnson Brothers became one of the most successful Staffordshire potteries by focusing on durable, high-quality 'semi-porcelain.'
Condition & Value
The platter shows good color saturation and clear embossing. There appear to be minor stilt marks on the reverse from the firing process, which are expected for the period. Any hidden hairline cracks or heavy utensil scratching on the face would reduce the value by 40-50%.

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.
