George Ahgupuk (1911–2001), also known by his Inupiaq name Avakana, was a seminal figure in 20th-century Alaskan art. Born in Shishmaref, he became famous for his detailed depictions of village life, eventually having his work featured in 'Fortune' magazine and the Smithsonian.
Condition & Value
The print appears well-preserved within the matting, though there is some minor dust and potential light foxing on the paper. The frame is a modern replacement; original framing or a pencil signature under the mat would significantly increase the value. Original signed prints by Ahgupuk are highly collectible.
