Produced by skilled Japanese *urushi* (lacquer) master artisans, likely within a Kyoto or Tokyo workshop. During the late Edo and Meiji eras, specialized guild craftsmen achieved extraordinary precision in layering tree sap and metallic powders, creating heirloom furnishings for the domestic aristocracy and discerning foreign collectors.

Very good antique condition overall with minor wear consistent with age. Visible lacquer chipping and minor separation along top front molded rims and edges; hinges and brass pulls appear original and functional with authentic aged patina; retains matching key.
