This is a finely potted Japanese porcelain covered bowl (futajawan) decorated in rich iron-red (aka-e) and gilt cherry blossom (sakura) motifs over a cobalt underglaze ring base. The highlight of the piece is its exceptionally crafted finial, featuring pierced reticulation (sukashibori) highlighted in turquoise and gilt enamels.

Produced by master porcelain artisans in the historic Arita ceramic center of Hizen Province, who catered to the refined tastes of samurai and wealthy merchant elites. The workshop tradition mastered high-temperature porcelain firing and delicate muffle-kiln overglaze enameling.
