Overview

A beautifully decorated Chinese porcelain plate featuring the classic 'Nine Peaches' and red bats motif in the Famille Rose palette. The design flows elegantly from the exterior rim over onto the interior surface, a sophisticated technique known as 'over-the-wall' decoration.

Story

During the Yongzheng reign in 18th-century China, imperial artists perfected a design of nine peaches and five red bats. This specific combination was a visual code wishing the Emperor infinite longevity and blessings.

Maker / Origin

While bearing a Yongzheng reign mark on the base, this piece is a later tribute produced in the late Qing Dynasty or Republic period. Jingdezhen potters frequently recreated these legendary imperial designs to meet the high demand of global collectors.

Condition & Value

The enamels appear vibrant with minimal wear or rubbing to the delicate pink and green pigments. No visible cracks or chips are apparent on the rim or foot rim. Excellent condition preserves the maximum decorative value. Value is driven by the quality of the hand-painting and the age of the porcelain.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
