Overview
An exceptional collaborative piece featuring a warm, ochre-glazed 'Durabel' stoneware teapot by Rosenthal, cradled in a stylized, footed metal warming frame with an integrated overhead handle. This design represents a brilliant marriage of Germany's finest ceramic artistry and industrial metalwork during the interwar period.
Story
In 1930s Germany, a brilliant design alliance was born. The legendary porcelain maker Rosenthal teamed up with metalwork giants WMF to create insulated, metal-jacketed teapots that kept tea hot for hours while looking incredibly chic.
Maker / Origin
Philipp Rosenthal founded his namesake company in Bavaria in 1879, quickly rising to become a global titan of high-end porcelain. For this innovative line, Rosenthal partnered with WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), the premier German metalwork manufacturer renowned for its pioneering Art Nouveau and Art Deco household designs.
Condition & Value
The ceramic body and glaze appear to be in good condition with minor wear on the unglazed foot rim. The metal frame shows a dark, aged patina consistent with age, but is missing its original matching ceramic lid. The absence of the lid reduces the value by approximately 40-50%.
