Overview
This is a classic example of Southwestern 'heishi' jewelry, featuring hand-rolled shell discs and raw, unpolished turquoise nuggets.
Story
The Kewa people of the Rio Grande Valley have been the master lapidaries of the Southwest for over a thousand years, trading their intricate shell and stone beads across vast distances long before European contact.
Maker / Origin
While the individual artist is unknown, this style is the hallmark of the Kewa (formerly Santo Domingo) Pueblo in New Mexico.
Condition & Value
The beads appear well-aligned and the turquoise nuggets show natural variations consistent with authentic stone. The barrel clasp shows some age-related patina but appears functional. The stringing should be checked for 'thread fatigue,' as vintage cord can become brittle over time. Excellent preservation of the shell color.

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.
