Overview
A substantial milk glass beer stein featuring a high-relief molded design of grapevines and hops, centered by a colorful transfer-ware American Eagle crest. This piece represents the peak of mid-century American milk glass production, blending traditional European stein shapes with patriotic Americana motifs.
Story
Post-WWII America saw a massive revival in patriotic decor. Westmoreland adapted their 19th-century molds to create these 'Old Quilt' style steins, celebrating a booming era of American manufacturing and backyard social life.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1889, Westmoreland was one of the 'Big Three' of American milk glass. They were famous for their high-quality 'English Hobnail' and 'Paneled Grape' patterns, surviving for nearly a century before closing in 1984.
Condition & Value
The milk glass body appears structurally sound with no visible chips. The eagle decal shows vibrant colors, which is excellent, as these are prone to fading or scratching. Excellent graphic preservation adds about 20% to the base value. Value is driven by the condition of the colorful eagle decal, which often wears off with washing.
