Overview
This is a charming trio of mid-century souvenir mailers containing accordion-style miniature photo views of Florida, Spokane, and Nelscott, Oregon. These pocket-sized travelogues allowed early automobile tourists to send a complete visual narrative of their adventures back home for just a few cents in postage.
Story
Before smartphones, 1930s road-trippers mailed these tiny paper viewbooks to share their journeys. These three packets capture a rapidly expanding American landscape, from tropical Florida highways to the rugged Pacific Northwest.
Maker / Origin
The Bardell Art Printing Company of San Francisco was a pioneer in the 'Fototone' process, specializing in high-quality, local-view postcards and miniature souvenir packets during the golden age of American road travel. Other regional publishers, like those producing the Oregon and Florida sets, competed to capture the booming tourist trade along newly paved highways.
Condition & Value
The packets show moderate edge wear, minor scuffing, and light toning consistent with age. The Spokane packet has some paper loss on the right edge of the sleeve. Complete, undamaged interior photo strips will preserve the maximum value. Value is driven by regional interest and completeness.
