Overview
This is an authentic early 20th-century Arts and Crafts to Art Deco transition ceramic piece by the famed Rookwood Pottery. It features an incised geometric diamond/chevron frieze glazed in Rookwood's celebrated shaded matte glaze, blending sage green into dusty rose.
Story
Founded in 1880 by Maria Longworth Storer, Rookwood was a pioneer of American art pottery led by women. By 1907, their innovative shaded matte glazes transformed raw Ohio clay into museum-level decorative art.
Maker / Origin
Rookwood Pottery was established in Cincinnati, Ohio, and quickly became internationally famous, winning the Grand Prix at the 1900 Paris Exposition. Known for hire-marking individual artists and dating every piece with a Roman numeral system below their iconic reverse 'RP' sunburst flame logo, Rookwood set the gold standard for American studio ceramics.
