Overview
A remarkable set of six 'MR10' cantilever dining chairs featuring tubular chrome-plated steel frames and original cognac-colored sling leather seats and backs. Designed by modernist pioneer Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, these chairs represent one of the most iconic and revolutionary furniture silhouettes of the 20th century.
Story
In 1927, Mies van der Rohe revolutionized furniture design by using bent tubular steel to create a chair that bounced. Inspired by bicycle handlebars, he turned cold industrial metal into a warm, springy, and elegant domestic sculpture.
Maker / Origin
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was one of the founding fathers of modern architecture and design, famous for his philosophy of 'less is more.' Knoll International, founded by Hans and Florence Knoll, secured the exclusive rights to produce his furniture designs in the late 1940s, ensuring his avant-garde masterpieces were manufactured to the highest standards of quality.
Condition & Value
The chairs appear to be in very good vintage condition. The chrome frames show great luster with minor surface wear consistent with age, and the leather slings show a beautiful, authentic patina with some expected stretching but no major tears or broken laces.
