Story
A lonely beast howls at the moon with Mount Fuji silent on the horizon. In Edo Japan, the wolf (ōkami) was revered as a divine mountain guardian and protector of crops from crop-raiding wild boars.
Maker / Origin
Produced by master potters within the famed Arita kilns of Hizen Province, the cradle of Japanese porcelain. Unlike early export wares made for European palaces, large domestic chargers of this style were commissioned for the wealthy merchant class and regional samurai daimyō seeking cultured, allegorical designs.
Condition & Value
