Overview
A set of four thick-walled glass votive holders featuring a textured, almost hammered exterior and a vibrant amber-orange hue. These pieces represent a legendary collaboration between two Finnish design powerhouses, Iittala and Marimekko, designed by Heikki Orvola.
Story
Heikki Orvola designed the Kivi (Finnish for 'stone') in 1988 to capture the essence of light through thick, jewel-toned glass. This specific Seville Orange color is a sought-after retired shade that glows with an internal fire when lit.
Maker / Origin
Iittala began as a glass factory in 1881 and became a pioneer of Scandinavian design, focusing on objects that are beautiful, functional, and durable. Their partnership with Marimekko, the iconic textile brand, combined Orvola's structural glass expertise with Marimekko's bold color philosophy.
Condition & Value
The glass appears clear with no major chips; however, there is visible residue or 'fogging' on the interior of the glass holders which may be wax or hard water deposits. Cleaning this will significantly improve the clarity and value. Individual Kivi holders in retired colors like Seville Orange typically sell for $15–$35 each.
