Around 1895, these women donned 18th-century mob caps to celebrate American heritage. Colonial Revival pageants and newly formed lineage societies like the DAR were redefining American identity through historic living tableaux.

While unsigned on the front, this was captured by a skilled professional portrait photographer using a large glass-plate negative studio camera.
