Overview
An exquisite example of Bohemian cased art glass, featuring a vibrant emerald green layer cut away to reveal the brilliant clear crystal beneath. The piece is adorned with intricate wheel-carved floral motifs, geometric cane-cut patterns, and polished thumbprint facets around the rim.
Story
In the late 1800s, Bohemian glassmakers captivated Victorian society by mastering the art of double-layered glass. Artisans literally carved through a colored outer skin to let the light dance through the clear crystal core.
Maker / Origin
While unsigned, this piece represents the pinnacle of Bohemian glass houses such as Moser or Egermann, which dominated the luxury glass market in the late 19th century. These workshops employed highly specialized master cutters who spent decades perfecting their touch on the abrasive copper wheels.
Condition & Value
The vase appears to be in excellent condition with sharp, crisp cutting. There is minor shelf wear on the polished bottom starburst, which is expected and actually helps confirm its antique age. No visible chips or flea bites on the delicate rim facets.
