Overview
An exquisite studio pottery lidded jar featuring a mesmerizing, highly developed crystalline glaze that mimics natural frost patterns. The underside bears a distinct incised signature characteristic of a master studio ceramicist, showcasing a perfect marriage of mid-century form and complex chemical artistry.
Story
In the mid-20th century, California became the epicenter of a studio craft revolution. Ceramicists abandoned mass production to treat clay as fine art, experimenting with volatile glazes that grew actual zinc crystals inside the kiln.
Maker / Origin
The incised signature on the base is consistent with Harrison McIntosh (1914–2016), a giant of the California Studio Craft Movement. Known for his quiet, elegant, and minimalist geometric forms, McIntosh's work is held in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian, the Met, and the Louvre.
Condition & Value
The jar and lid appear to be in excellent vintage condition with no visible chips, cracks, or crazing to the exterior glaze. The unglazed foot ring is clean, and the interior glaze is intact. Excellent condition like this commands a premium.
