Overview
A handsome pair of heavy, weighted hexagonal candlesticks featuring a classic Art Deco stepped base and faceted columns. Bearing the distinctive 'BP' diamond maker's mark and the design number 2424 1/2, these pieces represent the peak of early 20th-century Canadian metalware production.
Story
In the early 1900s, the American Benedict Manufacturing Company crossed the border to establish a Canadian branch in Ontario. These candlesticks survived the transition from Victorian excess to the clean, geometric lines of the Art Deco era.
Maker / Origin
The Benedict-Proctor Mfg. Co. was a highly respected Canadian subsidiary of the Syracuse, New York-based Benedict Manufacturing Company. Operating in Trenton, Ontario, they became famous for high-quality silver-plated holloware, hotelware, and metal novelties, combining American industrial design with Canadian craftsmanship.
Condition & Value
The candlesticks show a heavy, dark patina and tarnish consistent with age, which many collectors prefer over highly polished surfaces. There are minor surface scuffs, wax residue in the cups, and typical wear to the plating on the high edges.
