Overview
A classic example of California figural pottery, this hand-painted ceramic cookie jar depicts a stylized housekeeper figure in a floral dress.
Story
In the late 1930s, Laguna Beach was transforming from a sleepy seaside village into a world-renowned art colony, and Durlin Brayton was at the heart of it.
Maker / Origin
Durlin Brayton founded his pottery in 1927 and became a pioneer of the 'California Look,' eventually becoming the first person ever licensed by Walt Disney to create ceramic figurines.
Condition & Value
The jar shows significant all-over crazing with some 'peppering' or dark staining where oils or moisture have seeped into the cracks over decades. This is typical for authentic Brayton Laguna pieces but does affect the 'mint' status.

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.
