Overview
A striking example of Edwardian luxury, this bone china teapot features a minimalist white body contrasted by heavy, matte-finish gold gilding on the handle, spout, and finial. The 'Cauldon Ltd England' mark on the lid's underside identifies it as a product of one of Britain's most prestigious potteries during its peak era of refinement.
Story
Stoke-on-Trent was the beating heart of the ceramic world when this was fired. This specific design reflects the transition from Victorian clutter to the clean, bold lines that would eventually lead to Art Deco. It was made for a high-society tea service where the flash of gold was a silent signal of wealth.
Maker / Origin
Cauldon Ltd evolved from the famous Brown-Westhead, Moore & Co., operating out of the historic Cauldon Place Works. They were renowned for supplying porcelain to royalty and elite hotels, including the Tsar of Russia and the Waldorf Astoria. Their work is celebrated for its exceptionally white 'body' and the high quality of its gold application.
Condition & Value
The gilding appears remarkably intact with minimal wear on the handle, which is rare for a piece of this age. There is some visible soot or shelf-wear on the underside of the lid and rim. Excellent condition generally increases value by 50% over worn examples.
