Overview
A graduated set of three traditional Japanese porcelain nesting bowls (mitsugumi-bachi) painted in underglaze blue and overglaze enamels with gilding. The central medallions feature dynamic iris roundels framed by swirling water crests, floating chrysanthemums (kiku-sui), and scattered autumn maple leaves (momiji).
Story
Starting in 1668, the Tsuji kiln held an exclusive mandate as the official Imperial purveyor. This Meiji-era set brought that courtly elegance to high-status banquets with brilliant floating autumn motifs.
Maker / Origin
The Tsuji (辻) family of Arita established a celebrated workshop that served as the primary kiln supplying the Japanese Imperial Court (Kinri Goyōgama) since the early Edo period.
Condition & Value
Visually in very good antique condition with bright enamels and intact gilding along the inner brocade borders. Minor expected kiln pinholes and slight wear to the gilt rim edges, which is typical for Meiji tableware and does not significantly reduce value.
