Overview
A trio of classic Le Creuset enameled cast iron cookware pieces, featuring two signature round Dutch ovens in Marseille Blue and Cerise (Cherry Red), alongside a versatile braiser in the iconic Flame (Volcanique) orange gradient. These pieces represent the gold standard of culinary design, blending heavy-duty cast iron heat retention with a glass-like, non-reactive enamel finish.
Story
In 1925, two Belgian industrialists met at the Brussels Fair and decided to revolutionize cookware by combining casting expertise with enameling. They set up their foundry in Fresnoy-le-Grand, France, creating the iconic fiery orange 'Flame' color inspired by the glowing molten cast iron in their crucibles.
Maker / Origin
Le Creuset was founded by Armand Desaegher (a casting specialist) and Octave Aubecq (an enameling specialist). Their brilliant partnership solved the age-old problem of cast iron rusting and reacting with acidic foods by fusing a durable glass enamel to the metal. Today, each piece is still cast in an individual sand mold that is destroyed after a single use, making every pot unique.
Condition & Value
The exteriors appear vibrant with minimal visible chipping. The value of used Le Creuset is heavily dependent on the interior enamel; clean, unstained, and scratch-free interiors command top market prices, while heavy staining or dullness reduces value by 30-40%.
