Story
In 1979, Villeroy & Boch spotted a UNICEF card by Gérard Laplau and were so enchanted they built an entire line around it. This moonlit winter scene captures the 'moral sustenance' of village life that made the pattern a global icon.
Maker / Origin
Gérard Laplau (1938–2009) was a self-taught French 'naïve' artist who transformed folk art into a global design phenomenon. His decades-long collaboration with Villeroy & Boch brought his simplified, joyful visions of the countryside into millions of homes.
Condition & Value
The front image remains bright and clear. There is visible staining and 'shelf wear' on the unglazed reverse side, along with minor nibbles on the corners, which are typical for vintage ceramic tiles and slightly reduce the value. Individual tiles and trivets from this series are popular collectibles.

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.
