Overview
A magnificent example of Hungarian luxury porcelain, this large-scale rooster features the world-famous 'fishnet' hand-painted pattern.
Story
In 1858, a Herend painter was inspired by the scales on a Chinese plate and began doodling a similar pattern on a porcelain bird's breast; this 'fishnet' design soon became the company's most coveted signature.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1826 in a small Hungarian village, Herend rose to international fame after winning a gold medal at the 1851 Great Exhibition in London, where Queen Victoria herself ordered a massive set.
Condition & Value
The glaze appears lustrous and the hand-painting remains crisp and vibrant. No obvious chips are visible on the fragile comb or tail feathers in the photo, which is excellent for a piece of this size. Any professional repairs or hairline cracks hidden at the base would reduce the value by 40-50%.

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.
