Overview
An elegant, translucent French hard-paste porcelain teacup and saucer set featuring a hand-painted or transfer-decorated stylized bird and floral motif. The underside of the cup bears the distinct green underglaze 'D & Co' mark used by the renowned Limoges factory of R. Delinieres during the late 19th century.
Story
In the late 1800s, the French city of Limoges was the undisputed capital of fine porcelain. This delicate set survived over a century of morning coffees and afternoon teas, carrying a whimsical bird design that hints at the emerging Art Nouveau movement.
Maker / Origin
Established by Rémy Delinieres in 1879, R. Delinieres & Co. became one of the most prominent manufacturers of fine white-ware in Limoges, France. Known for their exceptionally translucent porcelain bodies, the company merged with Guérin in the early 20th century, making these early, independently marked 'D & Co' pieces highly collectible snapshots of the factory's peak era.
Condition & Value
The porcelain appears to be in very good vintage condition with no visible cracks, chips, or major crazing. There are minor manufacturing specks (firing dots) on the underside of the cup, which are common for 19th-century porcelain and do not negatively affect the value. Excellent preservation of the delicate pattern.
