Overview

A classic 1970s mechanical alarm watch featuring a cushion-shaped stainless steel case, vibrant blue sunburst dial, and dual crown layout. Powered by the manual-wind Ronda Caliber 1223, it uses an internal hammer striking a pin to sound a buzzing mechanical alarm directly from your wrist.

Story

Long before digital smartphones, 1970s watchmakers packed mechanical alarms into wristwatches. The red-tipped central indicator sets the wake-up time, releasing a buzzing internal hammer that vibrates against the case back.

Maker / Origin

Trafalgar was a prominent British brand in the 1970s known for importing stylish Swiss-made mechanical and early digital timepieces. The movement inside, a Ronda Caliber 1223, was produced by Ronda AG, a famed Swiss movement manufacturer founded in 1946 in Lausen, Switzerland.

Condition & Value

Visible surface scratches, dust, and minor debris under or on the acrylic crystal. The dial hands show slight oxidation. Proper working condition of the alarm mechanism is key to reaching the higher end of the valuation. Value is driven by the popularity of vintage mechanical alarm complication watches.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
