Overview
A set of vintage United States Air Force silver-tone uniform buttons, comprising six large coat buttons and two smaller cuff buttons. Each button features the official Great Seal of the Department of the Air Force, depicting an American bald eagle crest above a shield with lightning bolts and thundercloud.
Story
When the U.S. Air Force became an independent military branch in 1947, they abandoned Army gold for distinctive 'silver-oxide' buttons to match their new blue uniforms.
Maker / Origin
The set includes buttons stamped by premier American button and metalware manufacturers, notably Scovill Manufacturing Co. of Waterbury, Connecticut—one of the earliest and most prolific military contractors in U.S. history—along with Shields Inc. and B&S Mfg. Co.
Condition & Value
Very good vintage condition with minor surface rubbing and light edge wear consistent with gentle service wear. The shanks remain intact and functional.
