Story
Crafted in Kyoto over a century ago, this box was designed for the Japanese New Year feast. Its 'Three Friends of Winter' motif represents resilience, flexibility, and hope, celebrating plants that thrive in the coldest season.
Maker / Origin
The piece is signed 'Heian Yoryu' (平安 揚竜), a highly skilled lacquer artist working in Kyoto (historically referred to as Heian). Kyoto lacquerware of this era is celebrated for its aristocratic elegance, precision, and the masterful integration of various gold dust techniques.
Condition & Value
The lacquer surface appears remarkably vibrant with minimal visible cracking or fading. There is minor expected wear along the edges of the tiers and the base. The original wooden carrying box shows typical aging and minor scuffs but remains structurally sound, which greatly preserves the item's value.
