Overview
This is a polished valve of the black-lipped pearl oyster, famed for creating lustrous Tahiti black pearls. The exterior rough calcified layers have been carefully ground away to reveal the brilliant, iridescent nacre with its characteristic smoky dark rim.
Story
harvested in warm Pacific waters, this shell spent years secreting aragonite layers to form inner mother-of-pearl. Craftsmen ground down its rough outer shell to unleash a shimmering display of peacock, silver, and charcoal tones.
Maker / Origin
Likely indo-pacific / french polynesia.
